Gary Cummins is a Transport Planner with a particular interest in sustainable transport issues, Gary joined JMP in 2007 following a 22 year career working in design for print media. Gary’s sustainable transport background came about as a result of his ten years of experience as a London based cycle activist at the London Cycling Campaign. During his time as a lobbyist Gary was a pioneer in highlighting the barriers to promoting sustainable movement and the community severance caused by over use of street furniture and roadside guardrailing.
Gary has contributed to a number of cycling specific projects at JMP, notably a high level review of cycle hire schemes for Brighton and Hove City Council and cycle route and infrastructure reviews for Dundee City Council and Stirling Council. For the latter of these he developed a methodology and hierarchy for evaluating the existing and future route potential on that city’s cycle network. He also has experience of managing the establishment and delivery of cycle training programmes for local authorities, providing advice and guidance on recruitment of training staff, insurance and engagement with participants.
Gary is part of the JMP team who has delivered an extensive programme of classroom based activities and workshops to P5-P7 pupils and their parents at schools in Dundee and East Renfrewshire promoting active, safe and sustainable travel to school.
